Continuing IT Training Program - Storage Area Networks

Program Overview

As the amount of data residing in enterprises has grown, the storage requirements have grown from single hard drives to large, encompassing Storage Area Networks (SAN).  These SANs enable shared access, resiliency, increased performance, and numerous other benefits when storing massive amounts of data. Providing shared access to large volumes of data is a business enabler and often a business requirement.  During network risk assessments, it is important to understand these critical network components in order to properly weigh the likelihood and business impacts of an outage.

Key Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of key technologies that make up the storage area networks they encounter during bank examinations;
  • Explain the considerations that go into SAN design, build, operations, and maintenance; and
  • Discuss SAN best practices and the impact on the risk profile of the financial institution.
