The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Northwest Indiana Community Action (NWICA) will host a hybrid meeting focusing on expanding bank account access for the unbanked and underbanked residents of Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke counties. This convening will encourage an open discussion of how community-based organizations and other stakeholders can support the Northern Indiana Bank On Alliance (NIBOA) as it re-establishes relationships to help make safe, affordable transactional accounts available to low- and moderate-income residents. The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE) will present the importance of Bank On coalitions, the program’s national impact, and its alignment with community development. Local leaders will lead a discussion of banking barriers, highlight opportunities for bankable moments, and describe ways to encourage consumers to use low-cost checking accounts.
