The Directors’ College is a one-day seminar designed with outside bank directors in mind. The presentations will be delivered by a group of experienced FDIC speakers and subject matter experts, and will include timely information on various issues relevant to all bank directors.
This year’s program will include the following presentations:
Redlining: You’ve Identified Redlining Risk…Now What? (Consumer Protection): This session will provide an overview of Redlining risks, and discuss the Board’s role in mitigating such risks. Additionally, we will discuss how the Board and management could respond to heightened redlining risk. Finally, attendees will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in an interactive case study.
Liquidity Contingency Planning and Risk Mitigation (Risk Management): Contingency planning and preparation are critical to establish readiness for stressed liquidity events. This presentation will discuss the key components of effective planning and risk mitigation in the context of liquidity to underscore the importance preparation.
Risk Assessments: The Basics, the Benefits, and the Pitfalls (Risk Management and Consumer Protection): This presentation will discuss the benefits and importance of a well-developed risk assessment, particularly from the perspective of directorates. We will also share with you some shortcomings that may manifest in the absence of an adequate risk assessment process.
Conversation with Regulators: This session will provide an informal setting for participants to hear what is on regulators' minds and to share experience and insights as a community bank board member. Members of the FDIC regional management team will highlight emerging issues, answer participant questions and discuss topics raised by participants. The session structure will include prepared remarks, as well as an open forum for questions and discussion.
Economics/Banking Update: Presenters from the FDIC's Division of Insurance and Research will provide national and local economic data to assist attendees in identifying key trends that have impacted an may continue to impact the industry.

Guidance for New Directors
Additionally, we will offer two virtual-only Guidance for New Directors sessions through Microsoft Teams. These sessions will focus on fundamental board governance issues and are designed for Directors with less than five years’ experience. In addition to discussing participant questions, the sessions will cover Directors’ roles and responsibilities, the examination process, and effective strategies to monitor bank performance.
